"I keep coming back to one simple word, which is 'simplify.' Simplify your life," he tells me. "It's not about being greedy or hoarding money or hoarding stuff. It's just the opposite. It's saying maybe you should just be happy with what you already have."

By simplifying your life, Mr. Yeager says, more often than not you'll find you spend more time with friends and loved ones and enjoy life more than if you are constantly concerned about money. "There's so much out there on how to get more for less, but I think we're missing what could be the golden epiphany of these trying times, which is for once to try and understand and appreciate and think about that less can often be more."
